Aphthasol - first and only cancker sore prescription medicine
Canker sores or aphthous ulcers are the most common cause of mouth ulcerations.  About 20% of the population suffers from these oral ulcers, and most suffer in silence.  Some individuals develop only one canker sore while others suffer from outbreaks of multiple canker sores.   Once a person has initially experienced a canker sore there is a high probability of reoccurrence.

APHTHASOL is indicated in HEALTHY individuals with NORMAL immune systems who suffer from canker sores.  Aphthasol helps decrease the progression of the ulcerations and therefore decreases the duration of the pain.

Canker Sore images - small mouth ulcers with whitish sores and red bordersCanker sores are usually small, whitish sores with red borders.  They usually occur on the cheek, tongue, floor of the mouth and inside the lip.  Canker sores are usually identified by their appearance and their location by a physician and need to be distinguished from other types of ulcerations possibly due to infection or oral cancers.

In it's earliest stages a canker sore begins as a reddish area that may or may not be raised and it often produces a burning or tingling sensation.  This initial lesion will subsequently progress to an ulceration which is usually no more than 1/4 inch in diameter and round or oval in shape.  The edges of the ulcer are regular and NOT jagged surrounded by a halo and the center of the ulcer is covered by a loosely attached white or grayish membrane.

One can experience just one ulceration or multiple canker sores.  Usually the number of canker sores present at one time are six or less, and multiple canker sores tend not be clustered but instead are widely distributed throughout the person's mouth. Usually canker sores heal in 14 days without scarring.  Aphthasol inhibits the body's inflammatory reactions thereby decreasing the progression of this ulceration which results in decreased pain and quicker healing.

WHAT TRIGGERS CANKER SORES?
Although the exact cause of canker sores are not known, there are a number of factors that trigger outbreaks
  1. Mechanical trauma: self-inflicted, irritation from a sharp tooth, or trauma from a hard type of food, or brushing too hard.
  2. Emotional stress or hormonal changes.
  3. Products containing sodium lauryl sulfate found in toothpastes

  4. Dietary factors.  Nutritional deficiencies such as iron, folic acid or Vitamin B12.   Food allergies may be triggers and researchers have shown a relationship between canker sores and the following foods: Cereal grains;  Fruits and vegetables - lemons, oranges, pineapples, apples, tomatoes, strawberries;  Dairy - milk and cheeses; Other foods - nuts, chocolate, shellfish, soy, vinegar.

REDUCE YOUR RISK of DEVELOPING CANKER SORES
  1. Avoid crunchy or hard foods such as potato chips, pretzels, cut apples.  Avoid acidic drinks such as tomato juice or citrus juices, and avoid spicy or salty foods.
  2. Avoid foods that may trigger canker sore outbreaks for you.  Pay attention to what foods may have this effect with you.  The foods most commonly associated with triggering canker sores: Cereal grains - buckwheat, whole wheat, rye, barley; Fruits and vegetables - lemons, oranges, pineapples, apples, tomatoes, strawberries; Dairy - milk, cheeses; and nuts, chocolate, shellfish, soy, vinegar.
  3. Avoid biting the inside of your mouth or the side of your lips - often people do this as a nervous habit.
  4. Reduce potential for trauma to oral tissues by fixing broken teeth or rough or broken fillings.
  5. Don't brush too hard.  Nearly  two out of three people apply too much pressure when brushing their teeth.
  6. Minimize the chance that your outbreaks of canker sores are associated with a nutritional deficiency by taking a  multi-vitamin which contains iron, folic acid and Vitamin B12.
  7. Reduce Stress
  8. Have a thorough physical examination to make sure you do not have a compromised immune system or any other medical conditions making you more prone to canker sore ulcers.
