| WHAT
IS KERALAC NAIL GEL? |
| Keralac
Nail Gel is the most potent medical breakthrough prescription medication
that softens thickened skin tissue like corns and calluses and treats thickened
nails from conditions such as psoriasis and nail fungal infections. Keralac
Nail Gel is a clear, odorless, quick-drying gel that can be used by itself
or concomitantly with topical antifungals or steroids. It's a gentle yet
potent tissue softener for nails and skin. The active ingredients are 50%
Urea, lactic acid, and zinc. |
| HOW
DOES KERALAC NAIL GEL WORK? |
| Keralac
Gel breaks down the tightly-linked keratin by dissolving the intracellular
matrix of the nail, which results in the softening and eventual debridement
of the nail. Keralac Gel also increases the hydration of the nail
by inhibiting nail keratin from becoming excessively packed and cross-linked
which allows for better penetration of concomitant therapies. |
| WHAT
ARE THE INDICATIONS FOR KERALAC NAIL GEL? |
| Keralac
Gel can be used alone as a treatment for thickened skin of calluses and
corns and hyperkeratotic (thickened) nails. Or Keralac Gel can be
used concomitantly with other topical antifungal or steroid therapies for
thickened psoriatic nails or thickened nails from nail fungal infections.
THE END TO NAIL INFECTIONS BEGIN WITH Keralac GEL. |
| WHAT
ARE CORNS AND CALLUSES? |
| Cons
and calluses are thick-skinned areas on the feet that develop as a natural
response to friction and pressure. Corns usually show up on non-weight
bearing areas of the foot, most commonly on the joints of toes and between
toes. The most common sites of calluses are on the balls of the foot and
the heel. A corn is usually smaller than a quarter inch in diameter
and has a hard, upside-down pyramid-shaped core which is often painful.
Almost everyone develops calluses and corns which can be due to ill fitting
shoes or may be due to underlying foot disorders. Therefore it is
important if you frequently develop corns or calluses to visit a podiatrist.
It is important to never cut corns or calluses yourself because infections
can easily develop. |
| WHAT
IS A NAIL FUNGUS INFECTION, ONYCHOMYCOSIS? |
| Onyhomycosis
or nail fungus infection is a medical condition that is treatable.
Nail fungal infections are caused by dermatophytes, a fungus that infects
skin, nails and hair. Most often the fungus enters just under the
top of the nail and moves steadily toward the cuticle, the white half moon
area. The infected nails become discolored, yellowish-brown, thickened,
misshaped and eventually (if left untreated) separate from the nail bed
and the nail crumbles off. If left untreated the nail plate eventually
separates from its nail bed and crumbles off and the infections spreads
to other nails. The condition progresses from what initially appears
to just be a "cosmetic" discoloration of the nail to a painful debilitating
condition affecting ones ability to walk or use their fingers. |

WHEN & HOW
OFTEN DO I USE KERALAC NAIL GEL?
|
| Keralac
Gel is applied once or twice daily only to the affected skin or nails with
the applicator brush provided. Keralac Gel is clear and odorless and quick
drying. It's just as easy as using nail polish. After removing
loose nail or nail material with a nail clipper or file, apply a single,
even coat of gel directly to the problem area once or twice a day to relieve
and soften devitaliized, thick or diseased nails. Keralac Gel may
be used alone to soften thickened tissue or concomitantly with other topical
antifungal or steroid therapies. If apply concomitant therapy, apply the
Keralac Gel first, allow to dry and then apply antifungal or steroid
preparation. For nail fungal infections we recommend also treating with
Penlac Nail lacquer. Persons with thickened, hardened nails may also
need a health professional to trim away unattached infected nails regularly. |
|
HOW LONG BEFORE
I SEE RESULTS?
|
| Nail
infections are very difficult to cure and it may take many months of treatment
to see the effects as the nail grows very slowly. Fingernails
grow faster than toe nails: fingernails may clear within 6 months
and toenails can take 12 months to completely regrow. But don't despair
and discontinue treatment if you do not see improvement right away. It
may take 6 months or longer to start to see improvement. |
|
HOW IS KERALAC
NAIL DIFFER FROM THAN OTHER TREATMENTS?
|
| Keralac
Gel is potent but gentle to the skin. It brushes on softness and
brushes away a barrier to antifungal and steroid treatment. Keralac Gel
is applied directly to the site of the affected skin or nail and it does
NOT have systemic effects. Since treatments may need to be continued
for many months, Keralac Gel is advantageous as it has no systemic toxicity
and is well tolerated and safe. The concomitant use of Keralac Gel
with other topical antifungal or steroid treatments increases the efficacy
of other treatments by softening the tissue and allowing for deeper penetration.
For calluses, corns and thickened psoriatic nails, Keralac Gel may be used
alone to soften the tissue. But for Nail Fungal infections we recommend
the concomitant use of Penlac
Nail Lacquer, the ONLY FDA-approved topical prescription treatment
proven effective for treating mild to moderate fungal nail infections in
immunocompetent candidates. |
